Laura’s Little Lilt

This charming and lively little waltz offers an excellent lesson in rhythm contrasts between triplets, dotted notes and quadruplets.   The bass line largely consists of only three familiar chords, which allows the pianist to concentrate on the treble melody with its varied note values.  Count carefully.

Here’s a sample of the various rhythms you will encounter in the melody

Doted notes

Hint:    Memorize the three left hand chords and play them evenly in a strict 3/4 time.  Then add the melody.   You should try to work up to a lively tempo as you become confident of the notes.    This little “lilt” should sparkle!
